We’ve known for decades that aluminium is a remarkable material. It’s plentiful, strong, corrosion resistant and 100 per cent recyclable. It’s used for everything from soft drinks cans to aircraft manufacture and is now the material of choice for windows and doors. In the 1970s and 1980s, early generations of aluminium glazing appeared on the market. Frankly, those windows and doors are best forgotten. The styling dated quickly, and insulation was poor. It’s no wonder those who had rushed to replace their old timber frames went looking for an alternative and chose PVC-U.
